Ali Sher Sheikh, a resident of Sukkur, is another living example of how lives have changed since Khushhali Bank Limited offered a helping hand to such people who were otherwise living hand to mouth.
Raising livestock is a proactive business in the rural areas and could be quite lucrative given the right conditions and finances. But for Ali Sher Sheikh, livestock trade turned out to be more or less a dead business.
Dearth of finances meant scarcity of feed for the livestock. Not only that. It also meant he did not have enough means and resources to afford treatment for the sick and the diseased cattle. While Sheikh spent whatever little he could save on saving the lives of his animals, he was left with no resources or finance to feed the ones he was left with either.
He had to sell his buffalo’s calf to pay off debt and survive hard financial times as loan would be out of question then. Expensive loans meant expensive procurement of feed, so there was no way business could flourish. Along came Khushhali Bank Limited. And with it prosperity.
With microfinance from Khushhali Bank, Sheikh’s livestock business sprung to life again. Now with enough finances to buy feed and medicines for his animals, Sheikh’s income has reached a healthy level. He earns around Rs18,000 per month. The number of buffaloes he owns has risen from one to four, and respectively has his profit multiplied. Sheikh was able to provide better quality of life for his family of seven. With a sound financial position he has earned a good credit in the market.
Sheikh now also supplies milk to hotels and milk shops, dedicatedly working day and night with honesty and belief in himself. He has big plans now. With more financial assistance from Khushhali Bank Limited—this time around it would be his sixth cycle of loan—he says he would enhance his livestock to raise his income level even further and serve society by contributing to community development.
