• Aameer Karachiwalla

    Director/Chairman

    With over 30 years of experience, Mr. Aameer Karachiwalla is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales. Mr. Karachiwalla was re-appointed the Chief Financial Officer of UBL in July 2016. He joined UBL in 1998 and has previously held the positions of Chief Operating Officer, Chief of Staff and Group Executive Retail Banking at UBL. During this time, he has been instrumental in launching the bank’s branchless banking business, implementing the IT vision of the bank and in developing the bank’s overall restructuring plan which led to its successful privatization. He is also the Chairman of the Board at UBL Insurers Ltd and 1Link. Before joining UBL, Mr. Karachiwalla held senior positions at a number of financial institutions and multinationals including American Express Bank, Citicorp Investment Bank and Artal Group of Companies.

    Pieter Kooi

    Director

    Dutch national, Pieter Kooi has a vast & versatile experience of 32 years in administration, HR, Projects (UNDP), Small Enterprise Development, Poverty Alleviation and Microfinance.  His core areas of strengths are development of financial institutions & retail banking products, transformation of MFIs into commercial banks, Structuring & Corporate Governance, Institutional Capacity building (SME banks), project & financial management.

    Pieter holds a Bachelors as well as a Master degree in Business Economics; he is also a Graduate of Australian Institute for Company Director Course from Perth, Australia. He has a unique feather of several acclaimed publications & presentations in international conferences & seminars.

    He currently holds a position as Board Member & Senior Consultant in Governance & Strategy for ACLEDA Bank Plc. Cambodia.

  • Geert Peetermans

    Director

    Belgium national, Geert Peetermans is an Economic Sciences Masters, specializing in General Management. His diversified career spans over 20 years and in various continents & cultures, in Marker Research & Analysis, Technical Advisor for Ecuador and Microfinance Consultant. He is currently working as Chief Investment Officer for Incofin Investment Management since 2001. Geert’s strength is in strategy development, industry relations & international investment. He has been chairman of the Board of COAC Accion Rural SARL (Ecuador) & Board member of Financiera Confianza (Peru). Currently he is Board Member of MFI Fie Gran Poder SA (Argentina), Microfinance Investment Vehicle Rural impulse Fund SICAV-FIS (Luxembourg), Incoteam (Belgium) & Board Member of khushhalibank Ltd.  He is also a multi-linguist person knowing Dutch, English, Spanish, French & German languages at different levels.

    Aatiqa Lateef

    Independent Director

    Aatiqa Lateef is currently CEO of TAF Foundation. Prior to her role at TAFF, she was the Group Chief of Staff at Byco Industries Incorporated where she was responsible for strategic initiatives to support the group's vertically integrated businesses and objectives. Lateef also served as the Byco Groups Corporate Spokesperson. Ms. Lateef’s philanthropic work revolves around economic and social mobility initiatives where she is a vocal advocate for women’s empowerment.

    Earlier in her career, Ms. Lateef was a business strategy consultant with the global firm BearingPoint in Chicago and later, an Associate Partner heading the Corporate Practice Group of the Pakistan based multinational law firm of Awan Raza. She has also served as General Counsel /EVP Strategy where she was instrumental in transitioning Pakistan's oldest financial institution, HBFC, from public to private sector. Ms. Lateef is a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from South Texas College of Law and holds an MBA in Strategy from Mays School of Business, Texas A&M University.

    Zia Ijaz is a Fellow Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan with over 25 years of experience in Pakistan and abroad in organizations such as Askari Bank, Riyadh Bank and Allied Bank. Mr. Ijaz has held diverse roles such as Chief Financial Officer, Group Chief-Commercial & Retail Banking and Group Chief-Operations. Mr. Ijaz has been associated with UBL since November 2014 as SEVP / Group Executive, Retail bank.

    Robert Binyon

    Director

    UK National, Robert Binyon graduated in Modern History from Christ Church Oxford and has a vast experience of banking industry around the globe started in 1972 from the London Merchant Bank and held variety of position in the London Office. Mr. Biyon had two periods based in Geneva to run the Morgan Grenfell Bank in Switzerland, in 1985 when he was appointed to the main board. Mr. Binyon served as member of Group management committee of the Morgan Grenfell’s in 1988 and assumed responsibility for the Group’s operations in the Asia Pacific region. He has served as Chief Executive and Managing Director for three years of Tokai Bank Europe in London. From 1994 to 2003 Mr. Binyon served commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC) to run the financial markets department.  He has held a number of non-executive chairman and directorship roles, mostly in business operating or investing in Asia or other emerging markets and mostly focused on the SME sector.

    Currently, he is chairman of Lakeshore LLP, a private equity fund and of khronos Advisory Limited, both based in Thailand, a director of the Vietnam Infrastructure Limited fund and Chairman of many other commercial businesses operating in China and South East Asia.

    As the founder President of Khushhali Microfinance Bank since 2000, was part of the process Initiated by the Government of Pakistan to reform the financial sector under the Microfinance Sector Development Program with the objective of providing sustainable financial services access to the low Income segments of the market.

    Under his leadership Khushhali Microfinance Bank has emerged as Pakistan’s premier microfinance Institution with a nationwide presence across all parts of the country including Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

    Prior to Khushhali Microfinance Bank he has over 20 years of management experience commencing with Bank of America in ’82 and concluding with the National Bank of Pakistan, country’s largest commercial bank as its Senior Executive Vice President.
